The Computer Lab is designed to offer students the opportunity to learn computer skills and keyboarding, and to reinforce skills they have already learned, so that students become more successful in completing academic work and are properly prepared for the technological skills required in today’s information age. The course introduces students to basic computer vocabulary, keyboarding, word processing, computer research skills, Inspiration® software, and multimedia presentation possibilities such as PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.

Course goals:

*      Data bases & spreadsheets

*      Photo editing

*      Technology behind computers and the internet (history, digital information, technology and society, etc.)

*      Reinforcement of keyboarding skills and techniques

*      Career Exploration

*      Internet Safety

*      Operating systems and file management

*      On-line utilities for productivity

*      Effective searches

Student Responsibilities

Attend all classes, care about your work, make progress in the medium, help and cooperate with your classmates, take risks, make mistakes. Care about the quality as well as quantity of your creative work, help and collaborate with others in the class, communicate openly with me…. Do your best.  Don't wait until near the last minute to do you work.

LATE WORK

Deduction: 30% of the points possible will be deducted for assignments that are one day late and will not be accepted if more than three days late.  An assignment is late if it is not completed by the due date.

ABSENCE

Regular attendance is critical to success in the class. If you know in advance you are going to miss a class, please ask for assignments. When you return from an absence, you must make sure to turn in any work that is due. It is your responsibilityto “catch up”: on what ever work you missed.

            20%     Participation/Homework

            20%     Major Test

           100%     Final Grade
